Troubleshooting Flowcharts

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
No Power (LED off)AC adapter, fuse, power boardCheck wall outlet. Test AC adapter output (12V DC). Check fuse F1 on power board.
Power LED on, No SoundInput selection, mute, amplifierEnsure correct input selected. Check mute status. Probe amplifier output to speakers.
Sound from one side onlySpeaker, cable, amplifier channelSwap speaker connections to isolate. Check for broken wire. Test amplifier channel output.
iPod not charging/recognizedDock connector, dock boardInspect dock connector for damage. Check dock board for 5V charging voltage. Test dock board data lines.

Distorted AudioSpeaker damage, amplifier faultInspect speaker cones for tears. Test with known-good audio source. Check power supply ripple.

Firmware & Diagnostics

The system microcontroller contains non-user-upgradable firmware. Diagnostic mode can be accessed for testing.

  1. Enter Diagnostics: With unit powered off, press and hold MUTE on remote while plugging in power. LED will flash in sequence.
  2. Test Sequence: LED flashes indicate test mode: 1 flash (Audio test), 2 flashes (IR test), 3 flashes (Dock test).
  3. Audio Test: Generates pink noise through each channel sequentially.
  4. Exit: Unplug power to exit diagnostic mode.

Note: Firmware corruption is rare. If suspected, main PCB may require replacement.

Reassembly Instructions

Reverse of disassembly. Ensure all connections are secure.

  1. Install speakers into baffle and connect wires.
  2. Secure main PCB, reconnect power and speaker leads.
  3. Install dock board and connect ribbon cable.
  4. Snap front grille assembly into top housing.
  5. Mate top and bottom enclosures, ensuring clips engage.
  6. Install base screws through rubber feet holes.
  7. Press rubber feet back into place.
  8. Perform functional test before returning to customer.

Tip: Test all functions (dock, auxiliary, remote) after reassembly.

Test & Verification

After service, perform full operational test.
