Technical Specifications

Safety Precautions

Before servicing, read all safety instructions. This device contains components that can retain hazardous voltages even when disconnected from AC power.

  1. Disconnect AC power adapter and remove battery before disassembly.

Disassembly Instructions

Tools required: T8 Torx screwdriver, plastic spudger, anti-static mat.

  1. Remove four rubber feet to access screws.
  2. Remove eight T8 screws from bottom panel.
  3. Separate bottom panel from main enclosure using plastic spudger.
  4. Disconnect battery connector from main board.
  5. Remove six screws securing amplifier board.
  6. Carefully lift amplifier board, noting cable routing.
  7. Disconnect dock connector flex cable and speaker wires.
  8. Remove front grille by releasing six plastic clips.

CAUTION! Use plastic tools only to avoid damaging plastic clips and finishes.

Battery Replacement

Battery part number: 123456-004. Replacement procedure:

  1. Follow disassembly steps 1-4 to access battery compartment.
  2. Remove two screws securing battery bracket.
  3. Disconnect battery connector from main board.
  4. Lift out old battery pack.
  5. Install new battery pack, ensuring connector orientation is correct.
  6. Secure with bracket and screws.
  7. Reconnect battery connector to main board.
  8. Perform battery calibration: Fully charge, then fully discharge.

IMPORTANT: Dispose of old battery according to local regulations. Do not incinerate.

Firmware Update Procedure

Required: Bose firmware update tool (v2.1 or later), USB-to-serial adapter, Windows PC.

  1. Connect USB-to-serial adapter to service port on amplifier board.
  2. Launch Bose firmware update tool on PC.
  3. Select "SoundDock Portable" from device list.
  4. Load firmware file (SDockPortable_v1.2.hex).
  5. Follow on-screen instructions to complete update.
  6. Verify firmware version in diagnostic mode.

NOTE: Do not interrupt power during firmware update. This may brick the device.

Reassembly & Testing

After repair, reassemble in reverse order of disassembly. Post-repair testing:
