Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Ensure mounting surface is stable and can support speaker weight.

  1. Choose location: Select wall, ceiling, or corner location protected from direct water jets.
  2. Mount bracket: Use provided template to mark screw holes. Secure bracket with appropriate fasteners for surface material.
  3. Wire connection: Run speaker cable to location. Strip insulation and connect to terminal block (observe polarity for 8Ω).
  4. Attach speaker: Align speaker with bracket and secure with locking mechanism.
  5. Adjust tweeter: Pivot tweeter to direct high frequencies toward listening area.

WARNING! Ensure power is off to amplifier before making connections. Use only UL-listed wire suitable for outdoor use.

First-Time Setup

Configure for your audio system before applying power.

  1. Set impedance/tap: For 70V/100V systems, set the power tap switch to desired wattage (e.g., 1W). For 8Ω systems, set to "8Ω" position.
  2. Connect to amplifier: Ensure amplifier is compatible (70V/100V transformer output or 8Ω output).
  3. Polarity: For 8Ω use, connect positive (+) to amplifier positive, negative (-) to amplifier negative.
  4. Apply power: Turn on amplifier at low volume and test speaker output.
  5. Fine-tune: Adjust tweeter direction for optimal high-frequency coverage.

CAUTION! Do not exceed the maximum recommended power input. Verify all connections are tight and insulated.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Primary configuration is via the terminal block and power tap switch located behind the grille.

Terminal Block: Secure connections for speaker wire. Two terminals: one for common/negative, one for positive/tap.

Tap Switch: A small DIP switch or rotary selector to choose:
- **8Ω:** For direct low-impedance connection.
- **70V Taps:** Settings such as 1W, 2W, 4W, 8W.
- **100V Taps:** Corresponding wattage settings.

Tweeter Adjustment: Manually pivot the tweeter module after removing the grille (if required) to aim high frequencies.

Grille Removal: For access to taps and tweeter, gently pry off the grille using a flat tool at the designated slots.

Connecting to Audio Systems

Compatible with 70V/100V distributed lines and standard 8Ω amplifier outputs.

  1. For 70V/100V Systems:
    • Set the tap switch to the desired wattage for that speaker on the line.
    • Connect one wire to the COMMON terminal.
    • Connect the other wire to the terminal corresponding to the selected wattage tap.
  2. For 8Ω Systems:
    • Set the tap switch to the "8Ω" position.
    • Connect amplifier's positive (+) output to the speaker's positive (+) terminal.
    • Connect amplifier's negative (-) output to the speaker's common (-) terminal.

Tip: For multiple speakers on a 70V line, ensure the total tapped wattage does not exceed the amplifier's 70V output rating.

Operation and Adjustment

  1. Power On: Ensure amplifier is on and volume is set to a reasonable level.
  2. Sound Check: Play audio to verify speaker is working.
  3. Tweeter Aiming: For best sound quality, pivot the tweeter to point towards the primary listening area. This is critical for high-frequency clarity.
  4. Volume Balancing (70V systems): Adjust individual speaker levels by changing the tap setting (higher wattage tap = louder).
  5. Painting Grille (Optional): If desired, remove grille and paint with a light coat of spray paint designed for metal. Do not paint the speaker driver or obstruct the tweeter.

WARNING! Do not operate amplifier at clipping levels, as this can damage the speaker. Ensure the speaker is securely mounted before final adjustment.

Care & Cleaning

Disconnect power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the enclosure and grille. For stubborn dirt, use a damp cloth with mild soap and water. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or high-pressure water.

CAUTION! Do not allow water to enter the terminal block area or driver openings. Ensure the grille is completely dry before reattaching if removed.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
No sound from speakerAmplifier off/incorrect inputCheck amplifier power and source selection. Verify tap/impedance setting matches system.
Distorted soundOverdriven amplifier or wrong tapReduce amplifier volume. Check that tap wattage is not set too low for the applied voltage.
Intermittent soundLoose wire connectionTurn off power. Check and tighten connections at speaker terminal block and amplifier.
Lack of high frequenciesTweeter not aimed correctlyAdjust the pivoting tweeter to point toward the listening area.
Hum or buzzGround loop or poor cableEnsure proper grounding of amplifier. Use shielded cable for long runs in electrically noisy environments.
Water inside enclosureSeal compromised or improper installationDisconnect immediately. Inspect gaskets and enclosure for damage. Ensure speaker is mounted in a location appropriate for its weather rating.

Reset: Ensure all settings (taps, connections) are correct for your system.

Service: For product service, contact Bose Customer Service or an authorized Bose dealer. Do not attempt to open or repair the speaker yourself.
