Safety Precautions

Before servicing, disconnect AC power. Allow capacitors to discharge.

  1. Electrical Safety: Use an isolation transformer. Beware of high voltages in power supply section.
  2. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): Use grounded wrist strap and anti-static mat when handling PCBs.
  3. Mechanical Safety: Use correct tools. Note locations of screws and connectors during disassembly.
  4. Laser Safety: The optical drive contains a laser diode. Do not view directly or disassemble the laser assembly.

WARNING! Only qualified personnel should perform service. Incorrect repair can cause electric shock, fire, or further damage.

Disassembly Instructions

Procedure for accessing internal components of the media center.

  1. Power Down: Unplug the unit from the AC outlet.
  2. Remove Top Cover: Remove four Phillips screws from the rear. Slide the top cover backward and lift off.
  3. Remove Front Bezel: Release four plastic clips from the inside. Gently pull the bezel forward.
  4. Access Main PCB: Disconnect ribbon cables from the front panel and display. Remove six screws securing the PCB shield.
  5. Remove Power Supply: Disconnect all wiring harnesses. Remove three screws to release the PSU.
  6. Access Optical Drive: Remove two screws and disconnect the data/power cable. Slide the drive assembly out.

CAUTION! Label all connectors before disconnection. Handle ribbon cables by the ends, not the wires.

Firmware & Software

Service procedures for firmware updates and diagnostics.

  1. Firmware Version Check: Press and hold the '1' and '4' buttons on the remote while powering on the system. Version info will display.
  2. Service Mode: Access via hidden menu for diagnostics and calibration (requires service remote or specific button sequence).
  3. Firmware Update: Use a USB flash drive with the correct .BIN file. Insert into service port, initiate update from service menu.
  4. ADAPTiQ Re-calibration: Run the ADAPTiQ setup process using the supplied headset if speakers have been moved or replaced.

Warning: Interrupting a firmware update can brick the unit. Ensure stable power during the process.

Reassembly & Testing

After repair, reassemble in reverse order of disassembly. Perform full functional test.

  1. Reassembly: Ensure all connectors are fully seated and screws are tightened to specified torque.
  2. Power-On Test: Verify all indicator lights function. Check front panel display and button response.
  3. Audio/Video Test: Test all inputs (HDMI, optical, analog). Verify audio output from all speakers and subwoofer.
  4. Disc Playback Test: Load a CD and DVD to verify playback, navigation, and sound.
  5. Remote Test: Test all primary functions of the universal remote.

Final Check: Ensure no loose parts or foreign objects are inside the chassis.
