Unpacking and Setup

Unpack all components and inspect for damage. Place on a stable, level surface.

  1. Assemble the Tower: Connect the array sections together as per instructions.
  2. Position the Bass Module: Place it near the tower or in an optimal location for bass response.
  3. Make Electrical Connections: Connect the tower to the bass module using the provided cable. Plug the power cords into the units and then into a grounded AC outlet.
  4. Connect Audio Sources: Use the input channels for microphones, instruments, or music players.

WARNING! The tower and bass module are heavy. Use proper lifting techniques or get assistance to avoid injury.

First-Time Configuration

Power on the system; all controls should be at their minimum settings initially.

  1. Set Input Levels: Start with all channel volume knobs at minimum. Power on your sources, then slowly increase the volume for each channel to a nominal level, avoiding feedback or distortion.
  2. Select ToneMatch Presets: If using a supported Bose microphone or instrument, engage the corresponding ToneMatch preset on that channel for optimized sound.
  3. Adjust Master Volume: Use the master volume control to set the overall output level.
  4. Test the Remote: Ensure the wireless remote is functioning for volume and mute control.

CAUTION! Always power on sources (mixers, instruments) before the L1 system, and power down in reverse order to prevent pops and damage.

Technical Specifications

Controls and Connections

Primary controls are located on the base of the tower or a connected mixer section.

Front/Rear Panel: POWER switch, INPUT CHANNEL controls (Volume, Bass, Treble, ToneMatch selector), MASTER VOLUME, AUX INPUT, BASS MODULE output.

Remote: POWER, MASTER VOLUME UP/DOWN, MUTE.

Channel Controls: Each input channel typically has: VOLUME, BASS, TREBLE, and a ToneMatch selector knob to choose presets for different microphones (e.g., dynamic, condenser) or instrument types.

Master Section: MASTER VOLUME control affects the overall output level of the system.

Connecting Audio Sources

Use the combo XLR/TRS input jacks on the base of the tower.

  1. Microphones: Connect directly to an input channel using an XLR cable.
  2. Instruments: Electric guitars or keyboards can connect via a 1/4" TS/TRS cable.
  3. Line-Level Devices: Such as mixers or music players, use a 1/4" TRS or RCA-to-1/4" cable into an input or the dedicated AUX input.
  4. Power on Sequence: Always turn on connected sources first, then the L1 II system.

Tip: For the best noise performance, use balanced cables (XLR or TRS) whenever possible.

Operating the System

Basic operation for live sound or playback.

  1. Power On: Turn on connected audio sources first, then press the POWER switch on the L1 II.
  2. Set Channel Levels: Adjust each input channel's volume while the source is active. Use the ToneMatch selector and tone controls to shape the sound.
  3. Control Master Volume: Use the MASTER VOLUME knob or the remote to set the final output level.
  4. Using the Remote: The wireless remote can adjust master volume and mute the system from a distance.
  5. Muting: Press MUTE on the remote to instantly silence the system. Press again or adjust volume to unmute.

WARNING! Avoid pointing microphones directly at the speaker array to prevent feedback. Be cautious of high volume levels to protect your hearing.

ToneMatch and EQ Settings

The ToneMatch system provides pre-configured EQ settings to optimize sound for specific Bose microphones and common instrument types.

Using ToneMatch: Rotate the ToneMatch knob on a channel to select a preset icon (e.g., a specific microphone model, acoustic guitar, keyboard). This applies an optimal EQ curve.

Manual Tone Controls: Use the BASS and TREBLE knobs on each channel for further fine-tuning if needed, even with a ToneMatch preset engaged.

For Non-Bose Mics: Start with a generic "Vocal" or similar preset and use the manual tone controls to adjust.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug the system from AC power before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.

Store the system in a cool, dry place. When transporting, use the provided bags or cases to protect the components.

CAUTION! Do not expose the system to rain or moisture. Do not block the ventilation openings on the tower base or bass module.
