Unpacking and Setup

Unpack all components and inspect for damage. Choose a stable, level surface for setup.

  1. Assemble the stand: Extend the telescoping column to desired height and lock in place.
  2. Place the speaker/base unit: Ensure it is securely seated on the stand or placed on a solid surface if used without the stand.
  3. Connect power: Plug the AC power cord into the unit and then into a grounded wall outlet.
  4. Connect audio sources: Use appropriate cables to connect microphones, instruments, or music players to the mixer inputs.

WARNING! The column can be top-heavy when extended. Ensure the base is stable and not on an uneven surface to prevent tipping.

First-Time Assembly

Power on the system; check for normal indicator lights.

  1. Extend the column: Loosen the collar, raise the column to desired height, and tighten the collar securely.
  2. Connect sources: Plug microphones into XLR inputs and line-level devices into 1/4" or RCA inputs.
  3. Set initial levels: Start with all volume and tone controls at their midpoint (12 o'clock position).
  4. Power sequence: Turn on connected sources first, then power on the L1 Compact. Reverse order when powering down.

CAUTION! Do not force the telescoping column. Ensure it is fully retracted before moving or transporting the system.

Technical Specifications

Controls and Connections

Primary controls are located on the rear or top panel of the base unit.

Front/Rear Panel: POWER switch, INPUT jacks (XLR, 1/4", RCA), CHANNEL VOLUME, BASS, TREBLE, MASTER VOLUME, DIRECT OUTPUT.

Mixer: Each channel typically has gain/volume, bass, and treble. Use the gain control to set optimal input level without clipping. Master Section: Master volume controls the overall sound level sent to the speakers. Direct Output: Provides a balanced line-level signal to feed another system or recorder.

Connecting Audio Sources

Microphones: Use XLR cables into XLR inputs. Instruments: Use 1/4" cables into 1/4" inputs (set switch to INST if applicable). Music Players: Use RCA or 1/8" to dual RCA cables into RCA inputs.

  1. Ensure system power is OFF before making connections.
  2. Use high-quality cables appropriate for the source.
  3. For microphones requiring phantom power, ensure the system provides it (if equipped) and engage the +48V switch only for compatible mics.
  4. Start with channel volume at minimum, then gradually increase while testing the source.

Tip: Keep cable runs neat and avoid placing power cables parallel to audio cables to reduce noise.

Operating the System

Designed for live sound reinforcement and playback.

  1. Power On: Switch the POWER button to ON. A light or indicator should illuminate.
  2. Set Channel Levels: Speak or play into each source at performance volume. Adjust the channel's volume/gain so the peak indicator lights occasionally but does not stay lit (avoid clipping).
  3. Adjust Tone: Use BASS and TREBLE controls to shape the sound to suit the source and room.
  4. Set Master Volume: Use the MASTER VOLUME control to achieve the desired overall loudness in the room.
  5. Monitor Sound: Walk around the listening area to ensure even coverage from the column array.
  6. Power Off: Reduce MASTER VOLUME to minimum, then turn off the POWER switch. Turn off connected sources.

WARNING! Do not operate at extremely high volume levels for prolonged periods, as this can damage the speakers and hearing. Allow the system to cool if it becomes hot.

Tone and Volume Management

Bass Control: Adjusts low-frequency response. Reduce if sound is boomy; increase for more fullness. Treble Control: Adjusts high-frequency response. Reduce if sound is harsh; increase for more clarity. Feedback Management: If microphone feedback occurs, first reduce the channel's volume or master volume, then slightly reduce the treble control. Reposition the microphone or speaker if possible.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug from power before cleaning. Wipe exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.

CAUTION! Never allow liquids to enter the vents or openings. Store in a cool, dry place. Retract the telescoping column fully before placing in the carrying bag.
