Unpacking & Inspection

Carefully unpack the speaker and inspect all components.

  1. Remove the speaker from its packaging and place it on a stable, flat surface.
  2. Inspect for any signs of shipping damage. Report any damage to the carrier immediately.
  3. Ensure all accessories are present (User Manual, Power Cord).
  4. Check that the articulating array moves freely and locks securely into positions.

WARNING! The speaker is heavy. Use proper lifting techniques and/or two people to avoid injury.

System Setup

Position the speaker correctly for your venue and connect your audio sources.

  1. Positioning: Place the speaker on a stable surface, on a speaker stand, or pole-mount it onto a compatible Bose subwoofer.
  2. Array Shape: Press the array release lever and articulate the array to one of four positions (Straight, C, J, Reverse J) based on your audience layout.
  3. Power Connection: Plug the included power cord into the AC inlet on the rear panel and then into a grounded mains outlet.
  4. Audio Connection: Connect your mixer, microphone, or music player to the INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 combo jack using an XLR or 1/4" TRS cable.

Controls and Connections

All controls and connections are located on the rear panel of the speaker.

Rear Panel Layout:

Array Positioning

The articulating array allows you to tailor coverage to your audience.

  1. Straight: For audiences directly in front of the speaker at a similar distance (e.g., on-stage monitor).
  2. C Shape: For audiences both directly in front and to the sides of the speaker (e.g., foreground fill).
  3. J Shape: For audiences from the front extending to one side (e.g., corner of a room).
  4. Reverse J Shape: The mirror of J Shape, covering the opposite side.

Procedure: Firmly press and hold the ARRAY RELEASE LEVER. Gently articulate the array to the desired shape. Release the lever to lock the array in place. Always support the array with your hand while moving it.

Tip: Use the J or Reverse J shapes to avoid throwing excessive sound onto walls or ceilings.

Operation & Mixing

Guidelines for basic operation and mixing two sources.

  1. Power On: Turn on connected sound sources first, then turn on the Bose F1 speaker last.
  2. Gain Setting: Start with the INPUT LEVEL knobs at minimum. Play your source and gradually increase the level until the desired volume is achieved without clipping (watch for red clip LEDs).
  3. Using Two Inputs: Connect a microphone to INPUT 1 and a music player to INPUT 2. Use the individual LEVEL knobs to balance the volume between voice and music.
  4. Master Volume: Use the MASTER VOLUME knob for overall level adjustments during the event.
  5. Power Off: After use, turn the MASTER VOLUME down, then turn off the speaker first, followed by your sound sources.

WARNING! Do not operate at maximum volume for extended periods to avoid hearing damage and potential speaker damage. Always power up/down in sequence to prevent pops and thumps.

Tone Shaping & EQ

Use the tone controls to optimize sound for your environment and content.

Starting Point: For a flat response, set all tone control knobs to their center detent position (12 o'clock). Adjust from there based on the room and program material.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug the speaker from mains power before any cleaning or maintenance.

  1. Cleaning: Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, use a cloth slightly dampened with water. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  2. Grille: Vacuum gently with a soft brush attachment to remove dust.
  3. Storage: Store in a dry, cool place. If storing long-term, articulate the array to the STRAIGHT position to relieve stress on the mechanism.
  4. Transport: Always use the integrated handles. Secure the speaker during transport to prevent physical damage.

CAUTION! Never allow liquids to enter the cabinet or the array driver openings. Do not attempt to service the unit yourself.
